Root barrier is installed with the textured side towards the roots. Simply trench and backfill.

There are two types of Root Barrier (Vercan Root Barrier), one is textured and the other is dimpled. Some landscapers prefer dimpled root barrier as it is slightly more rigid plus some suggest that the dimples cause the roots to go in another direction once in contact with the barrier.

Great quality root barrier but unfortunately tree roots found their way under it! ????

Hi,It is unfortunate that roots went under your root barrier. I am replying to this to help others. A possible reason is that the barrier was placed within the drip line of the tree where roots are deeper. In this sort of installation you would likely have needed a wider root barrier. This would depend upon the type and height of the tree. Bentonite clay could also help as a root inhibitor when placed along the base.
